For a budget smartphone, the iPhone 5c was too expensive, for a successful iPhone it was too cheap (seemingly) – an expensive experiment ended in failure. True, everything in the world is relative, and one should not believe everything they say – even if everyone says it. The idea that a company should try itself in the market of budget smartphones was not spontaneous. Steve, for some reason, objected to this. But now the head of the company was Tim Cook, and he was not satisfied with Apple’s share of the mobile phone market in general. Against the background of 1.5 billion of their sales per year, Apple really looked modest.

But now the head of the company was Tim Cook, and he was not satisfied with Apple’s share of the mobile phone market in general. Against the background of 1.5 billion of their sales in the year of reaching Apple, they actually looked modest.
In February 2013, before the shareholders of Goldman Sachs, Tim once again returned to this idea: Apple has huge financial stocks, and enough money to create a decent, but cheaper, iPhone model.
iPhone 5c should not have come as a surprise, but it has. The impression was that Apple had done something reprehensible, shameful and immoral: the same iPhone 5 was released in a cheap, colorful plastic case, and called it the new iPhone model. Shame!
Until now, when announcing new iPhones, the company reduced (usually by 100) the price of the previous iPhone with a minimum amount of flash memory and sold it as a cheap alternative to the latest iPhone, no one it did not cause any objections.
In September 2013, Apple did roughly the same thing, but a little differently. Instead of simply lowering the price of last year’s iPhone, the company developed a new one based on it. Reducing the price as usual – when you buy at the same time with a 2-year contract to 99 (for the variant with 16 GB of flash memory) and 199 (for the variant with 32 GB) dollars.
This was something shameful

h2 iPhone 5c and iPhone 5 are not the same thing same
There is a lot in common between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5c. Even the first digits in their model identifiers are the same. iPhone 5 is two models, iPhone5.1 and iPhone5.2. For cellular networks GSM and CDMA, respectively. Mobile operators supported these standards in different ways, in some places because of this, fourth-generation communications were not available.
The iPhone 5c is also two models, iPhone5.3 and iPhone5.4. For GSM and CDMA. Only to support LTE in the networks of 270 operators in 100 countries of the world, iPhone 5c models were produced in 8 versions. I will not list them – but the importance of this change is obvious.
iPhone 5c when used in “correct” networks worked more reliably and efficiently. Even in 5c, the antenna design changed, which also affected the quality of communication.
The cheap plastic case was neither cheap nor the number of plastic. Inside the case was a solid steel frame. It was a plastic Unibody-case, designed with the same dedication and attention to detail as all other creations of Apple. Its creators and technologists were so proud of him that they even took off the process of its creation and showed it all during the presentation.
Because of the hybrid and very durable case, the iPhone 5c was slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor. The dimensions of the iPhone 5c (in millimeters) are 124.8 by 59.2 by 8.97, weight is 132 grams. The iPhone 5 has 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and 112 g.
This is its fault, but a difference of 20 grams and 1-2 millimeters is not serious.
The taste and color …
Different people like different items. Some of them like almost everyone, but still not all. It is very individual. Sorry for the banality – but in the works of some “gurus” of the design (there is such “Kovodstvo”) this moment is ignored.
The iPhone 5c did not seem cheap either (although styling for the design of cheap competitors smartphones is not a good ) or terrible.
Perhaps, Jonathan Ive’s team really wanted to emphasize that the iPhone 5c belongs to the cheaper segment of the smartphone market, but in terms of colors it was closer to iPod nano or iPod Shuffle than to Lumia, with which it was constantly compared.
Someone (I don’t remember who, and don’t even want to remember) put forward lethal version: the body to develop a new model of iPod touch, but for some reason it did not work. And the costs of their development had to be somehow “fought off” – so they decided, at the very last moment …
Similar situations happened: a significant part of the motherboard of the first iMac was inherited from Macintosh NC, the “network computer ”, Whose project was terminated by Steve Jobs. But not this time: the concept of the “C-series”, where “C” would mean “Cheap,” that is, “cheap,” really existed and left many traces, and the iPhone 5c fits perfectly into it.
But something was done (or said) wrong. The work on the following iPhones with a “c” in the designation of the models was minimized.
What was the mistake?
Most likely there were several of them. For example, calling a cheap smartphone which (if purchased without a contract, at full price) cost 549 and 649 (for the 16 and 32 GB version) was wrong.
Perhaps the matter is in the special reputation of the iPhone and Apple A cheap status phone model is nonsense, agree.
And not everything is clear here – depending on what to compare.
Sales of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s began on Friday, September 20, 2013, and set a new record: over the weekend, they sold 9 million copies. Accurate data on the distribution of these 9 million between the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s – no.
In the US, as of Monday morning, September 23, 2013, 1% of all smartphones accounted for iPhone 5s, and 0.3% – on iPhone 5c. I don’t know where the data came from, but I believe their source.
But after two or three months, sales of the iPhone 5c really did almost stop. Unibody from plastic and steel, alas, did not pass.
